Another Wednesday, Another Sketch

So I used another sketch group Wednesday to experiment on a larger scale. This one I guess is almost lifesize. Still trying to get down the shading and maybe one day I'll get down to actually getting the detail in the hands...This is hanging up now so I can look at it often to see where I can improve...

Good job. I like your idea of propping it up somewhere to consider it often. Think about things like where are the prominent features/bones. ie: the flare of the nostrils and the jawbone perhaps would be catching some light. I read a good book on seeing the face as made up of planes if I come across it in the library again I'll give you the name. You're doing so well that I'm quite sure you'll get there just by doing. Have fun and hope I haven't offended, keep in mind that I know nothing but hope we can grow together in this group.

I really like your use of colour in the picture below! Re. shading I find it really helpful to lay a ground of graphite across the whole page first, then I start drawing and then I erase to get highlights (squinting so I see the negative spaces/shapes) and darken the darks... Somehow I find that easier than starting with a white sheet and trying to get all the values from that. I hope that is helpful. A
